Can Claude or ChatGPT make phone calls for your business?
Not on their own: they don't dial out or hold a phone conversation with someone else. Connected to Acrium, they can get your workspace a real phone number, have Acrium's voice assistant place a call from a brief they write, and have incoming calls answered with instructions you set. The transcript goes back to your AI. Calls are on the Connect + Voice plan ($29.99/month) and aren't in the 14-day free trial.
Connect + Voice is $29.99/month. Calls, phone numbers and voiceovers aren't in the trial. Try free for 14 days. No card needed: the trial is Connect, which is $9.99/month after and has everything but calls and voiceovers. Cancel any time.
What the phone line does
- A real number: a local US or Canadian number for the workspace. Your AI can buy it for you by area code; its monthly rental comes out of your AI credits.
- Calls from a brief: your AI writes what the call is for and what to find out, plus background the voice may use but shouldn't read out. Acrium's voice assistant phones the person from your number and holds the conversation.
- Incoming calls answered: with instructions you or your AI set, up to 4,000 characters: hours, what to tell callers, what to take down for a follow-up. It also knows your company description.
- Transcripts back to your AI: when a call ends, its transcript lands in the attention queue your AI reads, and your AI can look up any call's status, transcript and cost.
- Paid from credits: Connect + Voice includes 12,000 AI credits a month for calls and voiceovers. A call is refused before it starts when they're used up.
What it doesn't do.
Your AI doesn't speak on the call itself; Acrium's voice assistant does, from your AI's brief. It can't take actions mid-call, like changing an order: it takes down what the caller wants for your AI to handle after. It doesn't take over your existing number, and numbers are US and Canada only. Calls aren't in the free trial.
Using it as an AI receptionist
- Tell it how to answer: your hours, what you do and don't offer, and what to take down (name, number, what they need).
- Let your AI follow up: the transcript arrives in the attention queue, so the next time you open Claude or ChatGPT it can see who called and what they wanted, then reply, note it, or call back.
- Keep it in one place: the same connection handles your Shopify store, social posting and Google Ads, so a caller asking about an order and the AI checking that order happen in one chat.

Things to ask your AI

- “Call the supplier at +1 555 010 0000 and ask when order 1042 ships. Don't agree to any price changes.”

Can Claude make phone calls?
Not on its own. Connected to Acrium on the Connect + Voice plan, Claude can have Acrium's voice assistant call someone from your workspace's number, following a brief Claude writes, and read the transcript when the call ends.
Can ChatGPT make phone calls for me?
The same way: through Acrium, on Connect + Voice. ChatGPT writes the brief, Acrium's voice assistant makes the call, and the transcript comes back. For ChatGPT, OpenAI currently lists full write access through custom connectors for Business, Enterprise and Edu.
Can it be my AI receptionist?
It can answer calls to your workspace's number with instructions you set (hours, what to tell callers, what to take down) and your company description, then pass the transcript to your AI. It can't take actions during the call: it takes down what the caller wants, and your AI acts on it afterwards.
Is calling in the free trial?
No. Calls are on the Connect + Voice plan ($29.99/month) and aren't in the 14-day free trial. Calls, phone numbers and voiceovers aren't in the trial. The trial is Connect, which has everything else.
What does a call cost?
Calls and the number's monthly rental come out of AI credits. Connect + Voice includes 12,000 AI credits a month (1,000 until the first charge, when bought during the free trial). A call is refused before it starts when the credits are used up.
Can it use my existing business number?
No. The tools give your workspace its own new local number in the US or Canada; they don't take over a number you already have.
How good are the calls?
We won't promise what we can't show. Acrium is new and in early access, and there are no customer reviews or case studies yet. Try it on a call that matters little before one that matters a lot.
