How to connect ChatGPT to Instagram

Short answer: You need an Instagram account, an Acrium account (free for 14 days, no card) and ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu to post. Pro can only read. About five minutes. Add Acrium as a custom connector in ChatGPT, sign in, connect Instagram, then ask.

Step by step

Four steps, about five minutes.

  1. Add Acrium to ChatGPT

    On ChatGPT on the web, turn on Developer mode in settings, then add a custom MCP server (Create, or + > Add custom MCP server). Name it Acrium, paste https://acriumautomated.com/mcp and set Authentication to OAuth. ChatGPT moves these menus now and then. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, an admin may have to allow custom connectors first. The ChatGPT setup guide has the current clicks.

  2. Sign in to Acrium

    ChatGPT opens an Acrium sign-in. New here? Make an account in the same window: your first workspace gets Connect free for 14 days, no card. Then pick the workspace it may use and the permissions it gets. It never does more than you could.

  3. Connect Instagram in Acrium

    In the Acrium dashboard, sign in to Instagram. Then upload the photos or videos you want posted to the media library, or let ChatGPT import them from a link.

  4. Try a first prompt

    Start with something small you can check. A few below.

Prompts to try first

  • “Save a note in Acrium that says ‘ChatGPT test’.” (If that works, your plan can post.)
  • “Write a caption for the newest photo in my media library and schedule it on Instagram for Friday at 6pm.”
  • “Reply to any comments on my last Instagram post that asked a question.”

What ChatGPT can do in Instagram

  • Post and schedule: photos and videos from your Acrium media library, now or later. Scheduled posts show in the dashboard, where you can cancel one before it goes out.
  • Read results: views, likes, comments and shares on published posts, where Instagram reports them.
  • Comments: read comments and reply to them.
  • Same chat, other platforms: TikTok, YouTube, X, Pinterest, Bluesky, Facebook, Threads and LinkedIn.

What it can't do, or won't without you

  • It doesn't run Instagram or Facebook ads. Comments and stats on boosted copies of a post aren't included; read those in Meta Ads Manager or the app.
  • Acrium doesn't make or edit videos. Upload a finished one, or have your AI edit it in its own environment first.
  • It can only post to accounts you've connected in Acrium.
  • On ChatGPT Pro it can only read: no posting, no replies.

Which ChatGPT plans work (read this first)

  • Business, Enterprise, Edu: work. OpenAI currently lists full MCP support, writes included, for these plans on ChatGPT on the web. Your workspace admin may need to allow custom connectors.
  • Pro: OpenAI says Pro can connect custom MCP servers with read and fetch permissions only. ChatGPT could look things up, but not post or change anything.
  • Free, Plus, Go: OpenAI's help page doesn't list them for custom MCP servers. Don't count on it.
  • The quick test: connect Acrium, then ask ChatGPT to save a note in Acrium. If that works, changes work. If it doesn't, Claude's free plan works with the same Acrium account.

Which ChatGPT plan do I need?

OpenAI currently lists full MCP support, writes included, for Business, Enterprise and Edu on ChatGPT on the web. Pro can connect with read and fetch only, so ChatGPT could look but not change anything. If your plan can't make changes, Claude's free plan works with the same Acrium account.

I'm on ChatGPT Plus. Can I post to Instagram?

OpenAI's help page doesn't list Plus for custom MCP servers, so don't count on it. Try the note test: ask ChatGPT to save a note in Acrium. If it can't, Claude's free plan works with the same Acrium account.

Can ChatGPT reply to Instagram comments?

Yes, on a plan that can make changes. It can read comments on your published posts and reply. Comments on boosted copies (ads) of a post aren't included.
